“Let them thank God for enduring love, for God satisfies the longing soul and fills it with good.”
Psalm 107:8-9
Notes for Contemplation as You Use this Devotional:
- In this passage from the chapter sometimes titled, “Thanksgiving for God’s Goodness (or Deliverance), the Psalmist is grateful for God’s eternal grace and lovingkindness. The Psalmist doesn’t thank God because God needs the appreciation, but because they are aligning themselves with their true nature, receptive to God’s glorious essence within them.
- In his 1963 book, Soul Power, longtime Unity minister, teacher, and writer, Rev. Ernest C. Wilson teaches, as Ralph Waldo Emerson did before him, about the Law of Compensation (or Reciprocity). This impersonal, universal law is a subtle form of divine order. It asserts that a sacred balance exists between effort and energy, as well as giving and receiving. In addition, it postulates that if you think only about what reward you’ll receive for your efforts, you’ll never find true fulfillment, the satisfaction (feeling) of being and having enough.
- No one’s soul is meant to languish. Like a flower reaching toward the sun, your soul longs for healthy, creative expression. This is why soul-longing can be compared to physical hunger. Furthermore, unfilled soul-longing lives in your body and can manifest as dis-ease, such as backaches, neck pain, migraines, and ulcers. For some people, the more they deny their soul-longing, the worse their physical symptoms can become.
- Demonstration is your evidence of how well your life works. If you neglect your soul-longing, you likely find yourself in situations and relationships that constrain you. You may feel unappreciated and misunderstood. Yet, the quantum universe has absolute integrity. So, you may believe you aren’t getting what you deserve, but you can only receive at the level of your consciousness (mindset). As Rev. Wilson says, “Everything brings forth after its kind.”
- Yet, the moment you embrace your soul power and are willing to feel God’s divine essence within you, you begin to transform. This is living in an eternal state of grace.
Contemplation Questions:
Ask yourself:
- What is my soul longing for?
- List, word map, or illustrate as much as applies.
- What are at least three (3) ways I can align myself with God’s divine essence within me?
- List, word map, or illustrate as much as you imagine.
- What are at least three (3) ways I can fulfill my soul-longing now?
- List, word map, or illustrate as much as you imagine.
As you use this devotional, remember: God, the supreme energy of the Universe, always gives more than you can possibly imagine. This grace is continually available, so don’t worry about what you’ve done before this moment. Align yourself now with the ever-present goodness of the Universe, and let your intuition guide you in discovering true soul fulfillment.
