“What do you have if you gain the whole world, but lose your soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”
Mark 8:36-37
Notes for Contemplation as You Use this Devotional:
- In this passage shared by the Gospel Writer called Mark (see also Matthew 16:26 and Luke 9:25), Jesus emphasizes the high stakes of knowing one’s truth and being in integrity. In some instances, “lose” is analogous to “forfeit,” meaning to give up because of error or failure to honor an agreement.
- Compromising himself and his beliefs isn’t a gamble Jesus will make. Furthermore, he asserts that no amount of fame or wealth can ever satisfy an unfulfilled soul.
- Jesus teaches a spirituality of the soul, not a religion of Christianity, which wasn’t a practice in his lifetime. All his teachings direct you to your oneness with God (Higher Power, Divine Life Energy, Supreme Being, etc.) and your soul’s journey to know God as the source of all you need.
- Your soul is your seat of integrity, and it holds your essence and your truth. Your soul has a blueprint unique for you, your own perfect rendering. This blueprint helps you objectively consider what suits you. It can help you map the route of your life, if you’re willing to work with what it reveals. Like trying on different colors and styles of coats, you can feel what energizes, as well as what depletes.
- In Metaphysics, the Law of Mind Action says that thoughts, ideas, and beliefs held in mind (in your consciousness) produce after their kind. This means that you can willingly and positively work with the blueprint of your true nature, even if a path appears foggy or challenging. Or you can alter the blueprint with fear and negativity, sometimes making deals with (selling your soul to) the proverbial devil so you can travel what initially seems an easier road.
- Your soul continually unfolds as you grow in spiritual maturity. This means, as Metaphysics also teaches, that your life is supported by two (2) related aspects of the Law of Mind Action: divine guidance and divine protection. With these, you can trust your blueprint and design your best life.
- Demonstration is the evidence you can see of what does or doesn’t work for you. You honor your soul and demonstrate integrity when you follow your intuition and discern what risks you’ll take to get where you truly want to be.

Use this devotional whenever you reach a plateau and are ready for greater soul unfoldment. Be gentle with yourself. Discern what already works and what course corrections are needed. Especially, remember that you have your own GPS (God-Power System), just as Jesus did. As you let it lead, you are guided and protected wherever you go.
