Jesus said: “The measure you give will be the measure you get back.”

Luke 6:38

Some Ideas to Contemplate:

  • In this wisdom from the Gospel Writer called Luke (see also Mark 4:24 and Matthew 7:2), Jesus—Master Healer, Mystic, Teacher, and Wayshower—recognizes the energy and intention of giving and receiving.  Although the measure Jesus describes can mean tangible things like money or property, Jesus also includes intangibles like the goodwill and lovingkindness we demonstrate toward others.  He continually teaches his followers that God (Higher Power, Supreme Universal Energy, etc.) is the source and sustenance of their lives.
  • Living abundantly means trusting the goodness of life.  Abundance is having enough or more than enough to meet our needs.  Financial prosperity is only one aspect of abundance.  Others may include: time for fun and rest; fulfilling work; loving relationships; meaningful service; and physical, emotional, and mental wellness.  In contrast, lack relates to something limited or deficient.  Again, financial insufficiency is only a part of this.  Others may include: overwork; loss of purpose; constant health challenges; and conflicted or unhealthy relationships.
  • Universal abundance is a form of grace, automatically given to all.  This assures us that God’s supply is unlimited.  Yet, as Rev Ernest Wilson teaches in his 1935 Master Class Lessons, we demonstrate supply “by developing our consciousness or awareness of supply; not simply the consciousness of supply, but our consciousness of supply.”  This is sometimes referred to as following The Law of Prosperity or The Law of Circulation, which requires that we give and receive:
  • Consistently: On a regular basis.
  • Enthusiastically: With a loving spirit.
  • Freely: With generosity.
  • Gratefully: With thanksgiving for having plenty.
  • Wisely: To the people and places that support our—and others’—wellbeing.

Practices for the Week:

  • Reflect, with self-compassion, on anything that seems lacking in your life.
  • Imagine and visualize how your life might be if your consciousness expanded to recognize your greatest supply.
  • Illustrate, journal, and/or record the ways you give and receive abundantly.

You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences.   Nurture an abundance mindset as part of your daily practice.  Even if something seems lacking, focus on other ways you are thriving.  Also, avoid making God a capricious, domineering super-being which gives to some and withholds from others.  Rather, think of God as Jesus does: As the great loving, compassionate energy of the Universe that imbues everything with life and goodness, including you.
