“Do not judge according to appearances, but by virtuous judgment.”
John 7:24
Some Ideas to Contemplate:
- This wisdom from Jesus—Master Mystic, Wayshower, Healer, and Teacher—reminds us not to focus on outer, material conditions, but to keep an illumined consciousness (mindset) that sees the world spiritually.
- Judging by appearances is focusing on material things. Judging with virtuous judgment is using the power of discernment—intuition, wisdom, and experience—to declare our intentions. Discernment is an intuitive process that helps us know what to do and when.
- Master Teacher Emmet Fox advises that no matter what we hope to demonstrate in our lives, we most hold a mental equivalent of it. This means that if we continue focusing on our current situation, the outer appearance, we will continue to have these same conditions. But if we want something else, we must redirect our energy by choosing to think differently. As in chemistry and physics, from which Fox created his “Mental Equivalent,” alter the formula and get a new result.
- Fox says, “We are here on Earth to express God, and true expression is what we call demonstration, because it demonstrates the Law of Being.” We always demonstrate what we hold in our minds. So, to change our demonstrations, what we see in our lives and in the world, we must change our thoughts and, as Fox says, “keep them changed.”
Practices for the Week:
- Consider your current intentions.
- Assess whether what you desire—prosperity, good health, loving relationships, etc.—is what you are demonstrating.
- Illustrate, journal, and/or record the mental equivalent, your new formula, to change your thoughts and demonstrations.
You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences. Remember that you have the power to demonstrate what is best for you now. Focus on your desires. Trust your intuition to guide you to a new equivalent. Then keep following your guidance as conditions transform.
