Giving and receiving are part of life’s spiritual flow, a recognition that universal abundance is a form of grace, automatically granted to all. Jesus, Master Mystic, Healer, and Wayshower often teaches about this practice and God’s beneficence. Consider this wisdom:
- “Give, and it will be given to you” (Luke 6:38).
- “Do not fear, for God’s great pleasure is giving you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32).
- “If you know how to give to your children, how much more will God give good gifts to those who ask?” (Matthew 7:11).
One expression says we cannot out-give God (Higher Power, Supreme Divine Energy, Great Spirit, etc.), because in God there is more than enough for everyone. As Master Teacher Imelda Shanklin explains in her 1929 book, What Are You?:
“Life is exchange between you and God. You name what is exchanged and how much is exchanged. Give your limited good for God’s unlimited good. Give your foolishness for God’s wisdom. Give your weakness for God’s strength.
“. . . Challenge God to a race in giving and see if you can disburse more rapidly and more fully than God will reimburse. If possible to conceive, let your ideal be that of giving more than you get, thus showing yourself to be opulent, fearless, [and] magnificent.
“When you give, you are rich—you have enough to share. When you do not give, you are poor—you have little for yourself, and that little will diminish under the unwise treatment of hoarding.
“. . . Life is exact. . . . You benefit by what you bestow.”
In some circles, what Shanklin describes is called The Law of Exchange or Law of Circulation, which requires that we give and receive:
- Consistently: On a regular basis.
- Enthusiastically: With loving intention.
- Freely: With generosity.
- Gratefully: With thanksgiving for having plenty.
- Wisely: To people and places that support our—and others’—wellbeing.
For Your Soulwork Practice This Week:
Remember: You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences. As a soul, you are here to learn wonderful things and share great gifts. So, direct your energy toward all you can bestow, no strings attached. Offer your talent and treasure generously. Then note how much good you receive in exchange.
