Jesus asks: “What parent among you, if their child asks for a fish, will give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, will give them a scorpion? So, if you misguided ones know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will God give to those who ask?”
Luke 11:11-13
Notes for Contemplation as You Use this Devotional:
- This passage, from “The Sermon on the Plain,” by the Gospel Writer called Luke, is sometimes titled, “Ask, Seek, Knock.” In it, Jesus teaches that as one of God’s beloveds, you must align with God (Higher Power, Supreme Being, etc.) to understand what you can do for yourself. Because no matter what may be occurring in your life, even when you don’t recognize it, you’re always one with God.
- Jesus is mystic, master teacher, healer, and wayshower for multitudes because he is a fully embodied, grounded spirit radiating his absolute divinity. Everything he does is God-guided and God-directed. He doesn’t assert his own personal power to heal others or solve their problems. He activates the spiritual power within himself and assures them that they, too, can use that same power.
- Furthermore, when Jesus rhetorically asks his listeners how much more God will give, he doesn’t affirm that God gives anyone difficulties to handle or requires martyrs for a cause. He reminds them that God is the only sustenance and source of their lives. So, just as a loving parent would, God gives only good to all creation.
- Demonstration is your evidence of how well your life works. Choosing to activate your spiritual power means you continually affirm the divine essence of God within you. You don’t blame God for your problems or waste energy telling woe-is-me stories. You appreciate your own divine nature, intuition, and depth of faith. As appropriate, you seek trusted assistance for healing. You recognize mistakes and shortcomings. You take one step at a time to release yourself from the grip of whatever has you stuck.
Contemplation Questions:
Ask yourself:
- What challenges am I facing right now?
- Without analysis or judgment, list, word map, or illustrate whatever they are.
- When I look beyond the challenges, what opportunities and possibilities do I see, no matter how small they seem?
- List, word map, or illustrate all you see.
- What steps is my intuition guiding me to take?
- List, word map, or illustrate as many steps as you can.
- Who are at least three (3) trusted people who can help and encourage me as I activate my own spiritual power?
- List, word map, or illustrate who they are.
- Then, note what you’ll do to stay connected with them.
Use this devotional whenever you want to overcome challenges. Remember that you’re a divine spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences. So, even though a problem may seem insurmountable, know that you’re as divine as Jesus was. Eliminate thoughts of martyrdom or beliefs that you’re a victim of circumstance. Affirm your worth, wholeness, and wellbeing in every way, and surround yourself with people who honor the divine in you.
