“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord.
“They are plans for your good, not for harm,
to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11
Some Ideas to Contemplate:
- Whenever prophets speak in sacred scripture, we are invited to shift our mindset and alter our behavior. This wisdom from the Hebrew Prophet Jeremiah to the exiles in Babylon encourages us to look beyond challenges by focusing on God. It also reminds us that we are never separate (exiled) from God, so we can believe in a bright future.
- God, also called Higher Power, Supreme Divine Energy, and Great Spirit, is sometimes defined as Principle, or Unchangeable Law. When we reflect on God as Principle, we avoid projecting our own humanity onto the Divine, especially any feelings we hold of condemnation and judgment. Principle itself is unlimited, an energy beyond description that imbues all life. While this energy is impersonal, we can experience God personally, just as all great spiritual masters do, particularly as the Source, Substance, and Sustenance of all we need for our lives.
- God’s plan for our lives, whatever it may be, is based on divine will and personal responsibility. We choose how we will show up in any given circumstance. In some spiritual circles, it is said that we know whether our plans work by what we demonstrate. Our demonstrations, the out-picturing of intentions, are neutral, revealed by positive or negative actions.
- We demonstrate the activity of God in us, through us, and as us when we listen to our own still, small voice, our intuition. We do not just hope that God’s plan is for good. We trust in God and our inner wisdom because we know God is always unconditionally loving and infinitely compassionate. Even if we cannot see our definitive plan, we still can take the next step forward, letting the best path reveal itself.
Practices for the Week:
- Remember: You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences.
- Reflect on God as the loving, compassionate energy that supports your life.
- Illustrate, journal, and/or record any guidance revealing your next positive step forward.
- Then discern how you will proceed.
