Jesus told the rich, young ruler: “If you want to obtain eternal life, sell your possessions and give to the poor so you will have treasures in heaven.  Then come follow me.”

When the young ruler heard this, they left in sorrow because they had great wealth.

As told in Matthew 19:21-22; Mark: 10:21-22; Luke: 18:22-23

Notes for Contemplation as You Use this Devotional:

  • In this passage shared by Gospel Writers Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Jesus tells the rich, young ruler who wants eternal life (spiritual perfection and soul reclamation) that they must release their attachment to outer possessions and outmoded thinking. Jesus isn’t condemning wealth or telling the ruler they must live in austerity and depravation. He’s telling the ruler that wealth (accumulations) must be circulated to benefit everyone.
  • Jesus is a mystic, master teacher, healer, and wayshower for multitudes because he fully embodies his absolute divinity. He always aligns himself with God (Higher Power, Supreme Being, Divine Life Energy, etc.) the Source, Substance, and Sustenance of all good. He knows that he and all others can have what they need, when they need it, as they trust the grace and goodness of God.
  • Money and possessions are part of prosperity, but they aren’t the only things. Prosperity also includes loving, harmonious relationships; fulfilling work; sacred service; joyful, creative expression; peace of mind; a comfortable, safe place to live; and a healthy body.
  • All unnecessary accumulations become congestion that blocks abundance. Like traffic congestion (too many cars on the road to move) or sinus congestion (excess mucus clogging your nasal passages), congestion in your consciousness, home, and workspace blocks flowing energy.
  • Unity Minister and Master Teacher Rev. Martha Giudici taught that to fully experience prosperity, you must clear all mental limitations, unhealthy emotions, and physical accumulations that block your good.
  • In consciousness (mindset), these places can hold energy blocks:
    • Attic: unused, forgotten resources and/or talents.
    • Basement: subconscious resentments, grievances, and fears.
    • Cabinets, Closets, and Drawers: cluttered, disparate, and unresolved thoughts.
    • Garage: access to creativity and freedom.
    • Technology (cell phones, clouds, computers, and social media): incongruous information and dissonant, stale energy.
  • Demonstration is your evidence of how your life works for you. Because everything is energy, most feng shui and organizing experts recommend that you retain only what you love or use. So, when you begin clearing blockages, you’ll likely notice what weakens or strengthens your free flowing energy.

Contemplation Questions:

As you reflect on your life and circumstances, ask yourself:

  • In what ways do my attitudes and beliefs energize me?
    • List, word map, or illustrate the ways. If you can’t discern any positive energy, transform, reframe, or eliminate the diminishing attitudes and beliefs.
  • In what ways do my possessions energize me?
    • List, word map, or illustrate the ways. If you can’t discern any positive energy, then donate, repurpose, recycle, or trash those possessions.
  • In what ways am I blocking my free flowing circulation?
    • List, word map, or illustrate all the ways.
  • In what ways am I encouraging my free flowing circulation now?
    • List, word map, or illustrate all the ways.

Use this devotional anytime you want to remove obstacles and create clear, clean space for your abundance to flow to you and through you.  Remember that you’re subtracting the extraneous to reveal the essential.  As you gently release all blocks, affirm that you have all you need now, and trust in your own perfect, unlimited supply.
