As Jesus descended from the Mount of Olives,
a multitude of his followers rejoiced and praised God
for all the mighty works they had seen Jesus perform.
Luke 19:37
Some Ideas to Contemplate:
- As his followers travel into Jerusalem with Jesus, Master Mystic, Healer, Teacher, and Wayshower, they praise all they have witnessed Jesus doing, such as feeding the hungry, healing the sick, casting out demons, and defying religious authorities. They are amazed at how well Jesus demonstrates God’s power, not fully understanding that Jesus does not make things happen. Rather, he taps into the energy of moments and lets things happen.
- Praise is a form appreciation offered to God, not because God requires or needs it, but because it helps us recognize God within us. Throughout his ministry, Jesus demonstrates this by working with God and letting things unfold, rather than forcing a desired outcome. When we know our Oneness with God (Higher Power, Divine Presence, Supreme Being Energy, etc.) not as a capricious puppeteer who must be managed or appeased, but as Divine Creator of all things, blessing us with Unconditional Love, Infinite Compassion, and Everlasting Grace, we also can demonstrate God’s power as confidently as Jesus did.
- A spiritual truth is: God can only do for us what God can do through us. Eric Liddell, Olympic gold-medalist and missionary, known to many from the 1981 film, Chariots of Fire said: “You will know as much of God, and only as much of God, as you are willing to put into practice.” When our purpose becomes practicing the presence of God, we demonstrate all we are and all that can be done through us.
Practices for the Week:
- Remember: You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences.
- Reflect on anything you are forcing to happen.
- Illustrate, journal, and/or record some ways you can let God work through you instead.
- Then discern your next steps in letting things unfold.
