“The greedy person creates strife, but the one who trusts in God is enriched.”

Proverbs 28:25

Notes for Contemplation as You Use this Devotional:

  • In this Book of Proverbs passage, from the section sometimes titled “Wisdom Instructions,” the writer contrasts constant striving for wealth and property with knowing that God (Higher Power, Supreme Being, etc.) is the source and sustenance of all life.
  • The Book of Proverbs is treasured because of its universal wisdom. Use it as an ancient, “Do-This-Not-That” compendium still applicable to your life in the 21st
  • Greed implies a lack of things, a belief that there isn’t enough. The strife greed creates is upset within you and among others. In comparison, trust in God is also trust in yourself, your intuition, and your abilities.  You’re secure in who you are and whose you are because you know that God is with you and within you.
  • Abundance is plenty, enough or more than enough, to meet your needs. It’s also a secure mindset that trusts in life’s goodness and grace, no matter what may occur around you.
  • Confidence is your greatest spiritual tool for savoring abundance and feeling prosperous. With confidence, you can be assured of who you are and what you can do today. You avoid comparing yourself and how much you have with others.  You maintain a positive outlook, even when your bank account is low.  You have loving relationships and maintain healthy boundaries.  You find ways to laugh at yourself and at life, especially when things don’t happen as you wish they would.
  • Metaphysician and Unity Co-Founder Myrtle Fillmore believed that you can best savor your abundance when you appreciate what you already have. She continually taught that “your prosperity comes through you instead of to you.” So if you don’t have the abundance you want, then you must transform your thinking to change your circumstances.
  • Demonstration is your evidence of how well your life works. Trust in yourself and your intuition ensures peace of mind. You can be grounded in the present moment, the place where you fully experience your abundance.  You stop ruminating about the past or fretting about the future.  You recognize that life is impermanent, as are many things. You know that you’re a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences.  So you direct your faith and energy to make the world better where you are.

Contemplation Questions:

As you reflect on your life and circumstances, ask yourself:

  • In what ways do I know that God is the source and sustenance of my life?
    • List, word map, or illustrate the ways.
  • In what ways have I been absorbed by acquiring money and/or possessions?
    • List, word map, or illustrate the ways.
  • What abundance do I have right now?
    • List, word map, or illustrate all you have.
  • What are at least three (3) ways I can savor (fully experience) my abundance?
    • List, word map, or illustrate as much as you imagine.

Use this devotional anytime you want to feel more confident in yourself and your abundance. As you do, know God as your sacred source, not a capricious sugar daddy giving and withholding at will.  Affirm daily that you have more than enough to meet your needs.  Look around you and notice all you have.  Savor the grace and goodness flowing through all aspects of your life now and behold yourself as one of God’s beautiful, divine beloveds.
