Some plotted against Jesus, yet large crowds still followed him.
He healed many, asking that they refrain from sharing his works,
which were to fulfill Isaiah’s (Ch. 42) prophecy:
“He will faithfully bring justice to victory.”
From Matthew 12:15-21
Some Ideas to Contemplate:
- In this passage, included only in the Gospel by the Writer called Matthew, Jesus—Master Mystic, Healer, and Wayshower—teaches, preaches, and heals, even when others question his methods and intentions. While he could be daunted by hatred and condemnation, these do not prevent him from fulfilling his mission. He knows who he is and whose he is.
- Jesus does not care what other people think of him, although in this context, he does not want to draw attention to himself. He is serving God (Higher Power, Supreme Universal Energy, etc.), not running for public office or trying to win a popularity contest. Victory for him has less to do with circumstance and much more to do with approach. He believes in treating others as divine, with love and compassion, building and strengthening communities even in the face of lack, injustice, and disease.
- Despite outer conditions, we, too, can be victorious when we embrace our pure soul self, expressing the Christ of our being, just as Jesus did. We can transform our current mindset to change our circumstances. We can free ourselves from old beliefs and behaviors, for example, by: standing our ground; setting boundaries; leaving the court of public opinion; and healing addictions and illness. Our victory, whatever it is, does not make us superior to anyone else. It elevates us to a new level of spiritual mastery.
Practices for the Week:
- Remember: You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences.
- Reflect on any ways you feel restrained by circumstances.
- Illustrate, journal, and/or record all the positive changes you imagine making to free yourself.
- Then discern the best ways to implement them.
