“If you are unwilling to serve God, choose this day what you will serve.”
Joshua 24:15
Some Ideas to Contemplate:
- This wisdom from the Hebrew leader Joshua challenges the Israelites to decide for themselves how they will act. They can follow the footsteps of others, or they can let themselves be God-guided. Joshua does not tell them which choice they must make.
- The power to choose is liberating, even when the choices before you are not your favorites. But if you continually need someone else to tell you how to live and what to do, or if you point fingers and blame others for your unhappiness, fears, and failures, you are abdicating responsibility for your life.
- You have the power to choose your thoughts and intentions. You also can discern how to direct your energy. This energy, like your faith, then follows your choices, thoughts, and intentions. No one else can direct them for you. For you to have the life you want; to heal, grow, and thrive, you must make your own choices.
- Master Teacher Emmet Fox says, “Life is consciousness.” This means that what you hold in consciousness (mindset)—what you choose to think, feel, and believe—determines what you demonstrate. As he explains, “Every action that you do all day long you build into your consciousness. You will never build anything into your consciousness until you do it in practice.”
Practices for the Week:
- Set the intention to notice what you hold in your consciousness throughout the day and what you put into practice.
- Determine which choices, thoughts, and intentions serve you well and which do not.
- Illustrate, journal, and/or record what you notice and any new choices you can make.
You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences. As you explore your consciousness, you can determine whether your thoughts, desires, and demonstrations align in healthy, positive, productive ways. Remember: If you dislike anything you are experiencing in your life, transform your mindset, redirect your energy, and choose differently.
