“Peace, I leave with you.  My peace I give to you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.”

John 14:27

Some Ideas to Contemplate:

  • Jesus—Master Mystic, Healer, Teacher, and Wayshower—lived in the world without being caught in worldly dynamics.  He is filled with inner peace because his consciousness (mindset) is always at one with God (Higher Power, Supreme Universal Energy, etc.).  So, he bestows this gift of peace to the disciples—and us—to encourage us to be a peaceful presence in a sometimes chaotic world.
  • Peace, which is rarely found in other people, places, or things, may be defined as feeling serene and tranquil.  True peace of mind, the kind Jesus has, is the key to choosing how to behave no matter what occurs within us or around us.  With this kind of peace, we often feel assured and secure, despite outer circumstances.
  • Because difficulties are rarely resolved with the same energy that created them, Minister Emmet Fox encourages us to limit news of war, fear, and danger and to focus on the presence of peace, even if only for a few minutes daily.  This gradually shifts our energy, so we gain new perspective.  Then, as he says, outer surroundings and circumstances no longer discourage us, and we trust that “all will be well.”

Practices for the Week:

  • Focus on inner peace.
  • Notice when you strive for something other than peace, such as definitive answers or control of a situation.
  • Illustrate, journal, and/or record all the ways you are a peaceful presence.

You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences.  Your thoughts and intentions determine your depth of inner peace, so be gentle with yourself as you choose to act, rather than react, to life’s ups and downs.  With practice, you will approach conflicts and challenges with compassion, ease, and grace, and reflect the presence of peace.
