“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105
Some Ideas to Contemplate:
- In this passage, the Psalmist appreciates both their connection with God (Higher Power, Supreme Divine Energy, Great Spirit, etc.) and their intuition. Sometimes called our still, small voice, intuition is inner knowing, seeing, and understanding. Intuition attunes us to the subtle energies of the Universe and helps us notice both inner and outer illumination.
- The light of intuition illumines our intentions, which differ from resolutions. While resolutions can direct our energy toward doing something first, intentions can direct our energy toward being our best selves. This is the reason that asking “Why Questions,” such as “Why did this happen,” stifles intuition and hinders creativity. When we ask, “why,” we often seek analytical information. But when we ask, “What Questions,” such as “What was my intention?” we can reflect on our purpose, needs, and desires.
- There is an expression that says the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Mystically, hell is not a place we go when we die, but the place of human experience where we are stuck in an unceasing cycle of error. This means that what we are demonstrating in our outer world does not work for us. It is doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting different results. Asking: “Why am I in hell?” is unproductive. Better to ask: “What were my intentions when I went in this direction?” Then we can be compassionate with ourselves for doing the best we could at the time. We can choose differently and remove ourselves from the hellish circumstances, directing all our energy toward positive outcome.
Practices for the Week:
- Contemplate and visualize your positive demonstrations.
- Notice how your intuition is guiding you.
- Illustrate, journal, and/or record all the illumination you see.
You are a spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences. Remember: As one of God’s divine beloveds, just as the Psalmist, you deserve to discern your own intentions, not claim someone else’s. So, let your intuition guide your choices and trust that you can see your guiding lights now.
