Jesus said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is as if someone were going on a journey, summoned their workers, and entrusted each with specific property.
To one they gave five talents, to another two, to another one,
each according to their ability.”
Matthew 25:14-15
Some Ideas to Contemplate:
- Throughout his ministry, Jesus taught that the Kingdom of Heaven is not a place we go when we die. Rather, it is the inner awareness and experience of our own divinity and the world we create around us based on our divine gifts, wisdom, and understanding. In “The Parable of the Talents,” Jesus emphasizes the importance of maximizing, rather than squandering, that sacred inheritance.
- While a talent in ancient times was actually money, talents in the post-modern world can be anything that comprises our abundance. This includes not only money, but also: peace of mind; spiritual gifts and abilities; excellent physical and mental wellbeing; harmonious relationships; and creative expression.
- Sharing our creative abilities is a spiritual practice, so the quality of our creative expression is more important than the quantity. For example, if we’re an excellent chef, we don’t need to necessarily open a chain of restaurants. We can cook delicious meals for our family and friends. But if we sit on the couch all day, play video games, and only order take-out, then we’re squandering our creativity.
Practices for the Week:
- Set your intention and use your energy for maximizing your creative expression now.
- Notice any ways you may diminish (squander) your unique abilities.
- Illustrate, journal, and/or record all the ways you recognize and appreciate your personal creative expression.
Remember that you are a creative, spiritual being with a radiant soul, living in a sacred body temple, having human experiences. Embrace your inner spiritual power. Believe in yourself. Honor your creativity. Trust your intuition. Then share your gifts as you are guided.
