In her 1940 spiritual essay collection, Winning Freedom, Florence T. Ritchie, Divine Science minister, teaches:

No matter how often the Lord rescued the children of Israel from disaster, they would in time forget and again run after false gods.  We wonder how they could ever have doubted the One which led them out of captivity in Egypt, held back the waters of the Red Sea for them, and fed them in the wilderness with manna from heaven.  Perhaps we  marvel how they could possibly have lost faith in their Lord after such experiences as these.

Sometimes, depending on our own life circumstances, we also may feel like the children of Israel, forgetting the grace and goodness we already have received.  In the face of new challenges, we may fear the unknown, letting doubts seize our divine life energy while we ruminate about what will happen and when.

Yet, when we remember that we have a constant sea of faith within us, we need not drown in doubt.  With quiet reflection, we can recall previous successes when seas parted for us and our needs were met beyond our wildest imagination.

So, today, no matter what is occurring, let us again find peace on this tranquil sea, trusting that we are being carried to whatever shore is best for us now.
