Following is one of my favorite Emmet Fox essays, written sometime in the 1930s. It reminds us to release old habits and beliefs, keeping our eyes, ears, hearts, and minds open to a new season’s abundant goodness and grace.
“Never look back. Always go right ahead. Even if you are quaking, go right ahead, and quake as you go. Jesus said: The one who puts their hand to the plow and then turns back is not worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven (Luke 9:62).
“. . . Those who look back are dead spiritually and that usually means their material affairs have become stagnant too.
“Never look back. No matter how unattractive or how dangerous the road ahead may be, it is better than the road back. The road ahead may mean difficulty for you, but the road back means failure. The road ahead may be veiled from your sight, but you must teach yourself to regard the unknown as friendly.
“Remember that God is always at the end of the road ahead, but at the end of the road back, you will only find yourself.”
For Your Soulwork Practice This Week:
As much as possible, even if you feel some fear or anxiety about the future, affirm that everything in the Universe is working for your absolute best. You do not need to know all details about how your best is being revealed. Just trust your intuition, your inner wisdom, and step forward in faith as you are divinely guided.
Remember to go slowly. Vow to put one foot in front of the other. Notice when you want to look back, and instead look ahead to find one beautiful thing on the path. Let that beauty be a sacred guidepost for the delights awaiting you.
